SATURDAY

Affliction

Saturday 10AM-12PM

The hysteria over witches among the people of Salem swept the region like a disease in 1692. As is the case in any tragic event, there are those whom will use the circumstances to their advantage. Under the veil of the witch-hunt lie other motivations; power, greed, revenge and righteousness.

AFFLICTION: Salem 1692 is a game set in the hysteria of a witch-hunt. Use your influence to whisper in the ear of the magistrate, judge, governor or minister to protect some and have others arrested. Salem was a chance to gain property, exact revenge and prove one’s righteousness.

The characters in the game were actual residents of the Salem region. This is the closest possible simulation of actual events in a game to date.

Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game

Saturday 10AM-2PM

Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game is an exciting game of mistrust, intrigue, and the struggle for survival. Based on the epic and widely-acclaimed SyFy Channel series, Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game puts players in the role of one of ten of their favorite characters from the show. Each playable character has their own abilities and weaknesses, and must all work together in order for humanity to have any hope of survival. However, one or more players in every game secretly side with the Cylons. Players must attempt to expose the traitor while fuel shortages, food contaminations, and political unrest threatens to tear the fleet apart.

Cthulhu Wars

Saturday 10AM-2PM

Cthulhu Wars is a strategy boardgame in which the players take the part of alien races and gods taken from the Cthulhu mythos created by H. P. Lovecraft. The game is physically large, and includes sixty-four figurines of the cultists, monsters, aliens, and Great Old Ones that range in height from approximately 20 mm to nearly 180 mm.

The game takes place on a map of Earth. Each player takes the part of one of four factions included in the base game. At the start of a turn, players Gather Power, then, during a series of Action Rounds, they spend this Power to accomplish various tasks, such as recruiting Cultists, moving units, engaging in battle, summoning monsters, building Gates, casting spells, and Awakening their Great Old One. When all players run out of Power, the Action phase ends and the next turn begins. Victory is determined by accumulating points on the Doom Track. The first player to 30 is the lone victor *if* he has unlocked all six of spell books.

Index Card RPG (ICRPG)

Each challenge you face will have a number called a TARGET. Just roll higher than that with your cool 20 sided die, and you succeed! Next, ICRPG combines all kinds of complex game designs into a simple system called EFFORT. Roll a die to see how much EFFORT you do on your challenge! Is it more than 10? The monster is killed, or task complete!

Scythe Board Game

Saturday 1PM-5PM

It is a time of unrest in 1920s Europa. The ashes from the first great war still darken the snow. The capitalistic city-state known simply as “The Factory”, which fueled the war with heavily armored mechs, has closed its doors, drawing the attention of several nearby countries.

Scythe is an engine-building game set in an alternate-history 1920s period. It is a time of farming and war, broken hearts and rusted gears, innovation and valor. In Scythe, each player represents a character from one of five factions of Eastern Europe who are attempting to earn their fortune and claim their faction’s stake in the land around the mysterious Factory. Players conquer territory, enlist new recruits, reap resources, gain villagers, build structures, and activate monstrous mechs.

SATURDAY at ROBERCON AFTER DARK (Holiday Inn Binghamton)

Hex Hex

Saturday 6PM-8PM

This is a card game that forces a Hex token around the table between players. In this respect, it’s sort of a game of Hot Potato. Whoever can’t get rid of the Hex token by using his cards “blows up,” thus losing points. Naturally, there are nuances to this. There are 17 different cards in the deck, some which merely pass the Hex token left, right, and across, while others split the token in two, or increase it’s damage. One dismisses it entirely. One blows it up while in another player’s possession. One forces the token to pass in only one direction, some cause extra effects if the token DOES blow up on you. A round ends when there are no more Hex tokens available, and there are as many rounds as there are players, plus one.

There are some interesting strategies that are not immediately apparent, but which become obvious after the first couple of rounds. Controlling when the last token blows up is very important since you lose and gain points based on this, so learning to play the cards to force the location of the tokens when they blow up is of paramount importance. Sending them to a player who has no cards to play works very well for this.

Pathfinder 2nd Edition

Saturday 6PM- 10PM

The regional fair has been delayed on account of strange creatures stalking the grounds at night, sometimes into the day. Things – and people – have gone missing. Are you here for festivities, and just want to get the show going? Perhaps you have a prize cow to enter into the contest before our judges get cold feet and leave. Either way, join us for this night of Pathfinder Second Edition hijinks, and we can tell the story together! (Pathfinder Second Edition, Level 1, generic characters provided – or bring your own!)

Arkham Horror

Saturday 6PM – 10PM

The year is 1926, and it is the height of the Roaring Twenties. Flappers dance till dawn in smoke-filled speakeasies drinking alcohol supplied by rum runners and the mob. It’s a celebration to end all celebrations in the aftermath of the war to end all wars.

Yet a dark shadow grows in the city of Arkham. Alien entities known as Ancient Ones lurk in the emptiness beyond space and time, writhing at the gates between worlds. These gates have begun to open and must be closed before the Ancient Ones make our world their ruined domination.

Only a handful of investigators stand against the Arkham HorrorWill they Prevail?

Arkham Horror is a cooperative adventure game themed around H.P Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos. Players choose from 16 Investigators and take to the streets of Arkham. Before the game, one of the eight Ancient Ones is chosen and it’s up to the Investigators to prevent it from breaking into our world. During the course of the game, players will upgrade their characters by acquiring skills, allies, items, weapons, and spells. It’s up to the players to clean out the streets of Arkham by fighting many different types of monsters, but their main goal is to close portals to other dimensions that are opening up around town. With too many portals open the Ancient One awakens and the players only have one last chance to save the world. Defeat the Ancient One in combat!

Your team has been hired to find a way to extract him and get him safely into the arms of his new employers, preferably with a minimum of bloodshed. What could possibly go wrong?

A Shadowrun Sixth World Edition game for 4-6 players. Rules will be taught and pre-gens provided for this game. Gates of R’leyh

Saturday 6PM-8PM

The clock is ticking. Your team of Investigators have been sent to R’lyeh for the purpose of reinforcing the failing gate, trapping Cthulhu in his prison forever. The Investigators have two enemies. The clock and the cultists hidden among their numbers.

Triggering the four needed incantations will take all of the skill your team can muster and you don’t have the luxury of time to search for the traitors in your midst.

The odds are slim, but the fate of the world rests in your hands.

The game is played in rounds starting with the player holding the pocket watch and proceeding clockwise so that each player takes a turn. The clock advances one hour after each round.

Exploding Kittens

Saturday 8PM-10PM

Exploding Kittens is a kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette. Players take turns drawing cards until someone draws an exploding kitten and loses the game. The deck is made up of cards that let you avoid exploding by peeking at cards before you draw, forcing your opponent to draw multiple cards, or shuffling the deck.

The game gets more and more intense with each card you draw because fewer cards left in the deck means a greater chance of drawing the kitten and exploding in a fiery ball of feline hyperbole.

Sunday 12PM-2PM

This may look like a kid’s game, but the experience is much more geared for teens and adults looking for a light, fun programming game.

Cats all start with the same cards: (Catch, Stalk, Play, Steal, Taunt, and Eat). No luck of the draw here, it’s entirely up to you! Get as many enjoyment points as possible and win the game! Plan and anticipate what the others will do so that you can claim birds from the backyard or from other cats.

Each player targets another cat and a bird. They will then select their actions for the two rounds of play. All of the cards are revealed simultaneously, the actions are resolved and when the smoke clears, some cats may have birds and some may not.

The birds will hang out at the bird bath, in the grass, on the fence or in the trees. The bigger birds will need to be stalked before catching them and you will have to time everything just right. Once you do catch your bird you will have a choice to either press your luck and play with the bird to double its enjoyment point value or to just eat it. The longer you play with it, the greater the chance of it being stolen by another cat.

Taunt cards allow other cats to distract you and cancel your actions. Nothing is safe in this backyard!

A basic rules set is included for younger players and beginners.

Shadowrun: Datasteal

A Shadowrun Sixth World Edition game for 4-6 players. Rules will be taught and pre-gens provided for this game.
